Partnerships with the private sector are essential to WaterAid's work and an important solution to the water and sanitation crisis. We have worked with the private sector for over 30 years.

Through partnership, companies are able to meet and exceed their corporate responsibility goals and bring life-saving clean water and sanitation to the world's poorest communities.

The water and sanitation crisis

Water and sanitation are fundamental to life. However, hundreds of millions of people live without these basic human needs.

Throughout WaterAid’s 30-year history, we have transformed the lives of over 17 million people, in large part thanks to the support of our corporate partners.

Your company’s partnership will help WaterAid reach even more people with safe water, improved hygiene and sanitation.

Our experience

WaterAid is recognised as a leader in our field by other international NGOs, governments and international agencies. We work in collaboration with many other leading authorities, such as the World Health Organisation and the UN Global Compact.

Additionally, we have worked with corporations of all sizes and numerous sectors to create successful, innovative partnerships.

Partnership benefits

In addition to helping WaterAid bring life-saving clean water and sanitation to some of the world’s poorest communities, a partnership can also help your company:

  • Gain a competitive edge in the marketplace
  • Engage your customers
  • Achieve marketing and publicity objectives
  • Engage and motivate your staff
  • Understand water and sanitation risks to your business

Customer engagement

Partnership can increase brand awareness, enhance client and customer relationships, increase sales, and differentiate companies from their competitors.

We can help craft compelling cause marketing campaigns which will feature your commitment to the water crisis and highlight your company’s support of WaterAid’s programs around the globe.

Corporate support

WaterAid can work with your company and/or its foundation to develop a project that aligns with your priorities. This can range from providing access to clean water in a community or to larger scale initiatives which lead to better education, improved health and well-being, empowers women and fosters entrepreneurship.

We can provide compelling proposals about project opportunities, and provide ongoing project updates including photos and stories from the field.

Employee engagement

WaterAid works with companies of all sizes and sectors to develop creative employee engagement programmes, which raise both awareness of and funds for WaterAid’s vital work.

Employee-led partnerships often include team-based and organization-wide fundraising competitions which provide a fun, lively spirit surrounding fundraising initiatives.

H&M Foundation

In February 2014, WaterAid announced its global partnership with H&M Foundation. The new partnership will bring safe water and sanitation to 250,000 schoolchildren and influence policy at national and international levels.

H&M Foundation is an independent non-profit global foundation, established in 2007 to celebrate H&M’s 60th anniversary. The foundation is the philanthropic group complementing H&M’s sustainability work. Through its programmes and initiatives, the foundation strives to have a positive impact on policy and the everyday lives of people living in the communities where H&M operates.

Building on WaterAid’s 12 year partnership with H&M, this new global partnership with H&M Foundation is a significant step, demonstrating commitment to tackling WASH issues.
